Project Overview

The project aims to prepare a comprehensive People Biodiversity Register under the Biodiversity Act 2002 in 800 gram panchayats across four districts of Haryana. This study was conducted in consultation with the Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) Chairman and members of BMC committee, a detailed data on flora and fauna biodiversity and associated traditional knowledge was collected through interviews, focus group discussions, and participatory rural appraisal (PRA) techniques with local communities for Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS).

Strategic Focus

  • Conducted an extensive data collection drive of flora and fauna species present in each gram panchayat along with detailedspecifications of each species.
  • Collect primary data through interviews, focus group discussions, and PRA techniques to gain insights into traditional plant usage and cultural significance from local communities.
  • Collaborate with the BMC Chairman and membersto ensure alignment with local biodiversity.
  • Identify key species of concern, documenting their availability, traditional uses, and cultural values to highlight their importance for local biodiversity.
  • Engage with local communities to validate findings and promote the preservation and transmission of indigenous knowledge.
  • Interaction with traditional healers or practitioners to gather data on traditional knowledge associated with specific plants.
